Fertility Drugs
Fertility drugs have helped many couples realize their dream of conception.
Fertility drugs work by stimulating the ovaries to produce a mature egg. They do
this in one of two ways.
Some fertility drugs work in your brain to produce
more of the hormone that triggers ovulation.
Your brain then signals your ovaries to produce a mature egg and get it ready to
be released.
Multiple eggs may be released. This is particularly helpful to women with
irregular menstrual cycles, irregular ovulation, or other ovulation
problems.
Fertility drugs that work in the brain to stimulate your ovaries are clomiphene and letrozole. These are given in pill form.

Other fertility drugs
work by stimulating your ovaries themselves to produce an egg. These contain the hormones that tell your
ovaries to mature and then when to release an egg. Multiple eggs may also be released with this method.
These drugs are helpful for women who have had no success with clomiphene or letrozole. They are also helpful to women
who have an unexplained fertility problem, or who are undergoing other assisted
reproductive procedures.
Fertility drugs that work to stimulate your ovaries are called gonadotropins. These are given by injection.
Both types of fertility drugs have also proven
helpful to men with fertility issues relating to sperm count and quality.
The hormones that control female ovulation also
control the production of sperm in men. Regulating these hormones can help to increase
sperm count and sperm quality.
